Lundi, le 3ere mai, 2010 The Eiffel Tower report

Bonsoir!

First of all, I'm wondering if there is some kind of a threat at the Eiffel Tower?  It was very odd walking through there at 10:15 pm.  We came from the River Seine side, having arrived from L'arc de Triomphe by Metro just in time for the dancing lights.

First we noticed a row of police vans.  And then guards, soldiers?, with uzzis at the ready.  Guns held by both hands, and ready.  We had seen the guards every time we walked through, and many police, but never with their guns or uzzis off their shoulders.

And no one in line.  Very few people out.  It was quite cold, but still...

And strangest of all, NO salesmen.  There was not a keychain to be found.

So, hmmmm.  Anyhow, we are safe and sound in our apartment, and I have some serious blogging to do.  I took a video of the dancing lights, but I think I need to upload it to a web site and then link to it.  It will get done, but maybe not until I'm back home.

And, by the way, this blog is my way of holding on to Paris toujours.  (always)  So, even once we are home I will be posting.  Keep checking in.  I have taken an average of 300 photos per day, and have so many posts to come:  eating, shopping, quirky little things...  I've taken photos of every day things, but have not had time to write it all out.  So, stay tuned!

Here's tonight's Eiffel Tower shots.  We were able to see the dancing, but not the full tower from where we emerged from the Metro.  The dark part of the tower is covered with a tarp - renovations.

The next one is from the top of the Arc de Triomphe.

The VERY COLD travelers.  It was 284 steps UP on an enclosed winding staircase and then out into the windy cold.  Whew.  But it was worth it.
